Feet after a twelve-hour shift
Nurses, cooks and shop staff share the same complaint and the same cheap remedies.
After a long day standing, the arch has been working as a shock absorber for twelve hours straight. It stiffens as soon as you sit, which is why the first steps after a break hurt most.
Roll the sole slowly over a tennis ball for two minutes before bed. Raise the feet above the hips for ten. Rotate between two pairs of shoes so neither is fully compressed.
These are unglamorous and they work. Pain that stays sharp for weeks, or wakes you at night, deserves a doctor.
